HISTORY OF DODOMA
Dodoma is among of the oldest region in Tanzania and was founded in 1907 by german colonists during cosntruction of the Tanzania Central railway. However in 1973 the Tanzania government gazeted that the capital city will be Dodoma instead of Dar es salaam, because Dodoma is found Central of Tanzania so will be better to serve the needs of people from the region around.
WHY NAMED DODOMA?
The word "Dodoma" originated from Gogo tribe-literally" It has sunk "The story is that last years ago, an Elephant came to drink water nearby kikuyu stream (the place named kikuyu due to the presence of fig tree from Gogo word) and got stuck in the mud after that some local people who saw it exclaimed "Idodomya" that means the place where it sunk but according to the different pronounciation the name Dodoma was born.
